Richard Starkey

Editor

Richard began his film industry career in the first digital audio suite in SA, back in 1991. Five years later he joined Cutaways, South Africa's leading edit house and trained as an editor under two of the country's top offline editors, cutting high-end commercials and music videos. In 2003 Richard branched out into TV drama and feature films, working on groundbreaking SA series like Yizo Yizo 3 and films like The Flyer and Straight Outta Benoni. More recently he has been cutting international TV series and films for the likes of Universal, SYFY Channel, HBO, Sony Pictures, Starz, National Geographic Channel, Showmax, BBC, ZDF and Lifetime Channel. Richard recently returned to film school and obtained a Master of Fine Arts degree, graduating cum laude. His thesis, titled Artificial Intelligence and the Effect on the Creative Economy, explored the use of AI in film post production from various perspectives. His screenplay, Niemandsdorp, is the story of a transgender woman who returns to the small Karoo town where she grew up in order to care for her sick mother - and chooses not to reveal her true identity. He lives in Cape Town and is an avid trail runner.

Percentiles are each film's standing among all films on MovieCove; the typical film is the median, so one outlier cannot drag it. Percentiles and reviewer scores count the films IMDb credits them on, for now; the Midcredits score bands, the shape of the crowd and the two cards count their MovieCove titles, shows included (a show ranked among shows), appearances as themselves left out. A descriptor is the shape of a title's IMDb rating distribution against the catalog; "most divisive" needs a spread wider than half of all titles, and a card names only a principal credit: a craft role, and on a show a crew role or a run of episodes, never a courtesy credit or a one-off guest spot.
