Jay Vincent
Composer · Born March 26, 1987 (39) · Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, USA
Emmy nominated composer Jay Vincent has been creating unique music for film, television, and game properties for over two decades. In 2012 he composed original music for the Golden Globe Awards, had a #1 television series in its demographic, "LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu," and received his first BMI Film & TV Award. His beloved score for "Ninjago" was also nominated for the 2020 Daytime Emmy Award, the 2015 Annie Award, and has been added to the legacy of film music released by Varese Sarabande Records. He is also part of the Fast & Furious universe, having composed music for its first animated series, "Fast & Furious: Spy Racers." From 2017-2021 Jay worked on three consecutive series with DreamWorks Animation, composing underscore and collaborating on nearly 40 songs; notable performers include legendary musicians such as Kristen Chenoweth, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Nick Lachey, Joey Fatone, Joey McIntyre, Shawn Stockman and Davey Havok. "Harvey Girls Forever!" joyfully reintroduces classic Harvey Comics characters to a modern audience, including Casper the Ghost, Richie Rich, and the titular characters Audrey, Lotta & Dot, and seemingly as many music genres as there are episodes. "Cleopatra in Space" expands on Mike Maihack's ambitious historical sci-fi graphic novels with equal parts Arabic folk and 80s flair. And "Fast & Furious: Spy Racers" adds several new gears to the canon, infusing modern hip hop and spy music conventions of classic cinema, as well as long-form character themes to anchor the franchise's new, younger audience to the story. A longtime collaborator with EA Games, his music can be heard on the new Apex Legends miniseries "Kill Code" as well as many other short films and trailers. He also composed the top selling track on EA's "Dragon Age 2: Epic Times" video game soundtrack, and for many trailers for standout games including "Mass Effect 3," "Command and Conquer," "Dragon Age 2," and "Dragon Age: Inquisition." His recent score for the Spanish film "El Regreso de Elías Urquijo" (directed by Cannes Emerging Filmmaker Showcase winner Roque Madrid), was honored with the award for Best Original Soundtrack at the Festival Internacional de Cine Bajo la Luna in Islantilla, Spain. The worldwide phenomenon of "Ninjago" has given him the privilege of presenting rich and thoughtful music to a new generation of children, in the spirit of the classical catalog in Chuck Jones' "Looney Tunes." In a time where musical themes may be losing popularity, Ninjago fans in dozens of countries are treated every week to memorable melodies played by unique instruments from around the world. With music that is mature yet accessible, his experience scoring this beloved series has convinced Jay that kids still enjoy meaningful music in front of the television. Like many of the industry's top composers, Jay received his graduate certificate in film scoring from USC, where he previously earned degrees in Composition and Cinema-Television. His formal studies of cinema technique and history provide him unique insight into the possibilities of how music can interact with the film medium. As a choral vocalist he has performed Haydn in Austria, Gregorian Chant in Rome and "Jingle Bells" in Japan. As a listener, his meticulous and diverse study of sound, story, and history has yielded an arsenal of abilities that has made many daunting projects possible. As a collaborator, his relationships with filmmakers have produced breakthroughs in careers and lasting works of art.

Percentiles are each film's standing among all films on MovieCove; the typical film is the median, so one outlier cannot drag it. Percentiles and reviewer scores count the films IMDb credits them on, for now; the Midcredits score bands, the shape of the crowd and the two cards count their MovieCove titles, shows included (a show ranked among shows), appearances as themselves left out. A descriptor is the shape of a title's IMDb rating distribution against the catalog; "most divisive" needs a spread wider than half of all titles, and a card names only a principal credit: a craft role, and on a show a crew role or a run of episodes, never a courtesy credit or a one-off guest spot.
