Michael M. McGuire

Producer, also director and writer · Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA

Michael Meher McGuire is a film producer, writer, and director best known for his work on feature films such as Electrick Children (2012), Color Out of Space (2019), and Resurrection (2022). Michael co-produced the hybrid docuseries Paul T. Goldman (2023) for Point Grey and Lionsgate, directed by Jason Woliner. McGuire was born and raised in the Midwest. The son of an artist and a pianist-turned-physician, he graduated the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2000 and earned an MFA from the American Film Institute in 2009. In his busy career, he produced a number of independent feature films including Guadalupe the Virgin (2011) starring Diana Garcia and Noah Segan, Hagar Ben-Asher's drama Dead Women Walking (2018), and the coming-of-age film, Summer of 8 (2016). He also produced the final music video for the late Chris Cornell of Soundgarden ("The Promise," 2017), and won a 2019 Clio Award for an Experiential Campaign for the Universal Pictures film, Hobbs & Shaw. As part of Elijah Wood's producing team at SpectreVision, McGuire oversaw the production of the cult hit Mandy (2018) starring Nicolas Cage, as well as Daniel Isn't Real (2019), the Sundance selection Bitch (2017), and the VR video game Transference (2018) in partnership with Ubisoft. McGuire made his debut as a feature-film writer and director with Aquarians (2017), which critics referred to as an "intelligent, introspective and compelling drama." He is a member of the PGA and the Television Academy, and resides in Los Angeles with his wife Melissa and their two sons.

Reviewers score the atmosphere 64/100 and the pacing 44/100 in their films, across 16 reviewed titles. The element that speaks to their work as a director.

Percentiles are each film's standing among all films on MovieCove; the typical film is the median, so one outlier cannot drag it. Percentiles and reviewer scores count the films IMDb credits them on, for now; the Midcredits score bands, the shape of the crowd and the two cards count their MovieCove titles, shows included (a show ranked among shows), appearances as themselves left out. A descriptor is the shape of a title's IMDb rating distribution against the catalog; "most divisive" needs a spread wider than half of all titles, and a card names only a principal credit: a craft role, and on a show a crew role or a run of episodes, never a courtesy credit or a one-off guest spot.
